Margi Weir's acrylics are unique and exciting. They are part painting – part sculpture – and involve and imply action on the part of the artist, the viewer and the painting. The viewer sees a different piece depending on the
viewer's position in relation to the painting. When it is dry, acrylic polymer is tougher and more flexible than oil paint. It has an inherent tensile strength that allows it some independence from the support. Individual marks
or lines can be suspended in front of the picture plane, interacting with and relating to the painted surface of the canvas in a variety of ways. The surface painting in these pieces is made up of "snap lines". These lines are
a record of the violent impact of paint with support, suggesting an event, an explosion, and a reverberation, yet the over-spray lends a softness to the line quality that is reminiscent of dry point intaglio. The combination of
these snapped lines with layers of hanging or pinned paint pushes the boundaries of painting towards sculpture and fiber art.
