Albuquerque is a unique combination of old and new, part frontier town and part cosmopolitan city. It is a blend of diverse cultures, people, styles and, of course, art. The Central Arts District began with a dream - in spring of 2001 Magnifico hosted a public forum to explore turning downtown Albuquerque and its empty buildings into a concentrated arts district. Over 600 community members joined arts groups and architects to explore concepts and designs. Since then several new arts venues have opened up downtown and organizers have been working hard to do something that has never been done  before - to create a sustainable arts district which keeps the arts as an integral part of downtown.
