The center was built in 1925 as a Methodist Boarding School for girls. The school closed in 1976 and Escuela del Sol Montessori took it over in the early 90s and refurbished it as a community art center. The Harwood Art Center is Albuquerque’s oldest community-based organization dedicated to the arts and education. We have five gallery spaces, 45 artist’s studios, and produce a year-round schedule of visual, literary and movement arts classes for the community and artists.

HarwoodAnthology02

“The Harwood Anthology is a giant robot coming to destroy your preconceived notions of what New Mexico poetry is or could be…. banishing would-be mad scientists of stuffiness and crushing all other anthologies with it’s giant titanium ro-boots.”   Danny Solis, international poetry slam champion

Packed with gems by 74 poets from across the state, the Harwood Anthology is a great survey of New Mexico poetry.  If you don’t have a copy yet, pick one up at either Harwood or at Bookworks, located at 4022 Rio Grande Blvd. NW.  Get one for yourself, or consider it a great holiday gift for someone you love!

Price: $10 tax free donation.
