The Cow presents a special exhibition by Raine Klover, Familia de Burque, blending old and new Albuquerque by combining images from antique glass photographic plates with her own digital photography. At the turn of the 20th century there were many portrait studios in Albuquerque. A few hundred of their glass negatives ended up in the hands of Raine Klover. She believes these negatives were taken at Cobb Studios and most of the photos were probably taken by Eddie Ross Cobb-the daughter of NM Territorial Governor-Edmund Gibson Ross. She has identified many of the people in the photos and has spoken with some of their descendants. Exhibit dates are July 1 through August 1 with an opening reception First Friday. Meet the artists and enjoy live music by the award-winning local folk duo, Charmed.

First Friday is the opening of Beau Carey’s West Side with an artist’s reception for the Old Town Artscrawl on July 17. West Side is the beautiful and haunting mirror up to Albuquerque's west side halted housing developments. What he calls "new ruins" are abandoned and naked spaces on the brink of inhabitation. His work has often explored how humans relate with the land; his new work takes a turn in the tendency towards huge spatial openness and bigger passages of color. Beau will be offering large, medium and small scale oils paintings and lithographs produced with the esteemed Tamarind institute.

Their grand opening is not until July 17, the Old Town Artscrawl, but while you are in Old Town tonight stop by and meet the owners. Many of you know Rafael through his work with the NM Veterans’ Art organization. After graduating from Rio Grande High in 1967, he served 12 years in the US Army. Rafael suffered an injury during his combat tour in Viet Nam that has resulted in a progressive loss of eye sight, but he continues to paint and displays his own work in the space as well.
